Cobalt Cat, a $12,000 Keeneland purchase won an Allowance race today at Laurel. The purse was $35,000, grossing $21,000 for the Cat Man Roo Stable. Congrats to the partners!

Keeneland Purchase Returns Immediate Dividends

Cobalt Cat made his first start for Cat Man Roo Stable a winning one. The son of Bluegrass Cat stumbled leaving the gate, picked himself up and ran by them for a 3 1/2 length score today at Laurel. The 3 year old appears to have a bright future and should earn the partnership a good profit.

Keeneland Sale Purchases

I am in KY for a few days attending the November sale. Specifically I came down for today’s (Tuesday) sale which has horses of racing age. Last year we came away with Soldier Field who won 4 races so far in 2011. So I am back trying to find a couple more for Cat Man Roo Stable.

This year, the market is so strong horses brought far more than they are worth. Case in point, a horse who broke his maiden for 3o, more than likely worth 15-20 sold for $55,000. A Maiden whose best start was a 2nd place finish in a 5 horse off the turf Maiden event at Delaware sold for a remarkable $50,000. Lastly a maiden who ran 10th the at Keeneland sold for 90,00. Where will they go with him?

True to our philosophy we did not deviate from our valuation of these horses. Instead we found value in 2 others, a 3 year old who won MSW at Presque Isle for $12k, and a hard hitting Canadian Bred for $11k.

Bottom Line: There is value in every sale, you just have to work hard, and stick to your prices. Paying double a horses worth is never a good idea. The only one who makes out is the agent grabbing a commission.

Soldier Field Wins 4th race of 2011!

Solider Field won today at Delaware Park for partnership Cat Man Roo Stable. He won going away as favorite and has proven to be an excellent purchase. It was his 4th victory of the year. I signed the ticket for him at last year’s Keeneland November sale.

Keeneland November Catalogs

This just in, catalogs for the November Sale will be available on Keeneland’s website, www.keeneland.com, beginning Tuesday, October 4. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of October 17. Keeneland announced today that they have cataloged 3919 horses.

Soldier Field won his third race of the year for the Cat Man Roo Partnership. He has now earned double his purchase price.
